Finding the bright side. -L

As humans it is easy to dwell on the negative in life. It is who we are. We might not like it but it is. However, there is a better way to look at life but it’s a little more difficult to do. The positive way.

Many people including myself at some point will find themselves upset or bothered by things in life. Even the best of us just look at our day and see every mistake we made, every time the teacher called on us and we didn’t know the answer, and every stupid, little thing you did.

But why focus on that part?

During all these bad things that made your day rough, I bet you shared a laugh with a friend. Maybe made someone smile or you got a good grade. There is always something, at least one moment or occurrence that made your day at least a little better.

Even if you really did have this terrible, awful, no-good, very bad day and maybe there really wasn’t anything positive, there is always something to look forward to; something in the near future that can give you a reason to fight through the rest of the day to get to. Whether that be hanging out with a friend or maybe just laying on your bed listening to music after school and just relaxing. There is always something to look forward to.

For many, focusing on the negative is a very easy thing to do. It is our natural human instinct but if you try, and really try, to focus on the positive it can honestly make your life better. You’ll be a happier person overall. You’ll look forward to that thing tomorrow rather than worrying about your mistake today. You will get out of bed easier knowing you have that big game tonight after school. You have a reason to be happy.

You being happier can even affect those around you to be happier. You smiling at someone might make them smile and make them happy and they’ll smile at someone else and so on and so forth.

We all deserve to be happy. We all deserve to have more positivity in our lives from the people in it to even inside ourselves.

So I challenge you, the next time you have a rough day and can’t find that motivation to get out of bed, find that next thing you can look forward to. That thing you look forward to enough that will make you want to get through the day. And the next time you go home and throw yourself onto your bed upset that you had an awful day, look at the positives. Think back to a moment where you and your friend were laughing so hard your stomach hurt or even just finding a dollar on the floor.

Find more happiness. Find more positivity. You can do it. I know you can.
